A blue member earns 174 miles, which is 25% of distance flown. As a gold, you get a bonus of 100% of distance flown, so 696 + 174 = 870. (It's not a bonus of 100% of earnings, but of miles flown, which works to your advantage in discount economy, but against you on anything above premium economy, which you presumably fly from time to time to make gold).
Under the promotion, it's triple *base* miles.
So in business it works out as:
Base 696
Bonus 2 × 696 = 1392
Cabin 50% = 348
Tier 100% = 696
For a total of 3132, an extra 2262 over the O or Q bucket fare you were on.

2262 at a value of 1p per avios is around £23, let's say £10 for food and drink that gives me, from a mathematical standpoint, £89 - £30 (bag) - £23 (avios) - £10 (food) = £26. Not too bad.
