both RDM and EQD are according to distance: https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...cial-fares.jsp

I've been booking all cheap fares that I can through special fares because the EQD gain is significant (sub <$500 TATL fares which are commonplace are one example). RDM gains less so (since cheap fares earn you 50% of mileage).
