More information

From the FAQ at
http://www.2000.australia.com/questions.htm

"2. Flights will be booked out, even if I could afford them

Only into Sydney and only for a few days will flights will be busier than usual. According to airline experts the expected peak travel dates are

the day prior to the Opening Ceremony – 14 October 2000 (and the few days prior)
the day after the Closing Ceremony – 2 October 2000
Options include travelling to an alternate entry point into Australia or staggering travel schedules so that arrival into Australia is prior to or after these dates.

There are direct international flights into most major cities in Australia Perth is the ‘Western Gateway’ for the Games and all other Australian mainland capital cities offer similar alternative gateways.

The airlines have indicated that their usual yield management practices will be in place during the Olympic period. Therefore the usual range of discounted fares will be available for those who book early enough."
