On time performance is very weak... I will like to see a more reliable turnaround time, especially Seattle is very congested.
The trend of 2001 so far seems to be fewer cancellations but more delays. Fortunately, I think on-time performance is on the rise.
Alaska has been absolutely plagued by ATC delays out of SEA since the temporary control tower went into place. The transition back to a permanent control tower is scheduled to take place May 29. Alaska will then implement their new summer schedule, which includes more block time and slightly longer turnarounds at SEA, ANC, PDX and possibly also LAX. These two factors should combine to raise on-time performance.
If you don't believe congestion at SEA has increased, take a look at this. During 2000, 72.2% of Alaska's SEA arrivals were within 15 mins of schedule (this compares to a 71.0% average for the ten majors at that airport). But, during March 2001, only 53.6% of arrivals into SEA were on-time. And, as best I can recall, there were no major weather events during March.
It should be said that numbers have improved substantially during April and especially May.
PS Carfield...keep writing to AS about the lackluster lunch service...
