One of the FAQs mention that you'd have no problem getting into F lounges in HKG and would get a HKG F lounge invitation in JFK. I assume you wouldn't get the lounge invitation 2 weeks in advance in JFK. So would I have any problem asking for a F lounge invite in HKG when I checkin for the JNB-bound flight in J (as I assume I'm ticketed in F)? And would I be eligible to use F checkin line or only J line in HKG?
Correct - you won't be issued with lounge invitations for HKG when you check in at JFK.
At check-in in Hong Kong you will automatically be issued a lounge invitation for the
business class lounge. You won't be eligible for the F lounge, even though you might be on a ticket that has been priced at F rates.
Had you been travelling straight through it may have been a different story.
You will only be eligible for the J check-in line at HKG. Although it really makes little difference... they are co-located and they have so many counters there isn't usually any waiting time.
