Am I missing something, why would anyone think that only 250 nights would entitle them to something that the rules show they early are not entitled to.

Sorry but 250 nights in the scheme of things is nothing and if you consider that it somehow gives you the right to demand things then I would say spg / Marriott probably consider you more hassle than worth but actually you won't even be on their radar yet!
