At lots of AS kiosks there is sometimes an agent there to help - ask them to quickly look up your 6 letter code !!

Also, as an MVP (not gold) I have sometimes had my change fee waived - for instance, if I needed to leave a day early. And, Alaska and Horizon are pretty helpful in letting you stand-by for earlier or later flights, same day.
