So it's arrival, immigration to get your visa on arrival (can take quite a while), get your bags, walk to the international departure terminal and check-in all over again. On the plus side the airport is not that big, but most things are way more complicated then they should.

But what do you have to lose, if it's a valid connection there is the duty of care. Just make sure that 1st night in TYO can be cancelled in time....

What a headache. You would think the airline would push to keep those in transit airside.

Did you have to do any advance paperwork for landing in China or is it a fairly straight forward VOA process? (I'm an EU citizen)
How was the flight too by the way? I hear they have a pretty new 787 Dreamliner for this route.
