Seems like AC violated their own rule:

If you are travelling with children under the age of 12, you will receive complimentary seat assignment ensuring children are seated adjacent to an adult/guardian travelling with them
Case law does allow one to ask for lost salary/wages if the airline delayed her trip home causing loss of income. Methinks that's why she's suing AC, hoping for a settlement, which she will likely get.
