Wouldn't think twice about sending one of my relatives on an OZ flight. Those incidents were indeed very unfortunate, and didn't need to happen if they had proper CRM in place. No insights here, but I sure hope they finally learned something. But as mentioned: The trip to the airport will likely be the most unsafe part of your journey

I would however second the reliability issue with regards to their lack of extra frames. You'll be far better off with KE in this case. Don't overthink it, you'll have a more than pleasant flight experience.
