The Marriott predates that by many years. I believe technically the Marriott is actually in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. When I lived on N St we always referred to the neighborhod as Dupont Circle, and Badlands, which was on 22nd south of P St, was considered in Dupont Circle. IIRC, everything east of 22nd St was considered Dupont Circle.
I used to work right behind this Marriott, and our property management definitely considered us part of Dupont Circle. That said, I'd prefer to be here or the West End over Georgetown proper for convenience. Staying at hotels in the thick of Georgetown mean you are stuck with the miserable traffic, even when just trying to get out of there.
