I just returned from a trip including 4 nights in CAI. The trip was broken up and the first two nights were at the Le Meridian by the airport. We then went out of the country and upon returning reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights at the Conrad.
As a Diamond I was upgraded to a suite. Actually it was two rooms, with a living room/powder room and quasi kitchen kind of in between. The size of the room and the set up they gave was good for our situation. The view from the balconies were good. There is a lot of noise from the street/city, but it didn't keep me awake. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and nearly everyone went out of their way to try to be sure all was good for us. I actually quite liked the breakfast buffet, perhaps that is my strange choices in food, but they had 2 huge bowls of red and yellow bell peppers that, eaten with their soft feta cheese (seemed more like a mixture of feta and goat) was fabulous.
Even with all the good, within 30 minutes of being in our rooms, I had it all set up to check out the next morning and have no intention of going back. The hotel is VERY dated, at least in my opinion. Part of it is just the style, which isn't my style, but wouldn't have had that big of an impact on me.
This hotel is all smoking. The rooms reeked of smoke, as did all of my belongings upon leaving. I had a tough time breathing almost anywhere in the hotel. Even at breakfast, there was a smoking and non smoking area. As you walked closer to the food, the smell of smoke got worse. I ended up getting sick, a bad sinus infection, which majorly disrupted my trip and my flight home (after going to Abu Dhabi for a few days).
The hotel was also run down. The main door to the hallway wouldn't close most of the time. We luckily figured out it was the trim on the floor that was causing the problem, but it was still an ordeal every time to get the door closed. Furniture and fixtures didn't look clean and were not in good repair. The shower was small, with a big tub next to it. I didn't ever want to walk barefoot on the carpet.
After 10+ years as a Diamond, this was actually my first Conrad, and I was not impressed at all.
We ended up checking out the next morning and after visiting the pyramids, moved back to the LeMeridan at the airport. It is clean, modern and non smoking.
If this is the best Hilton in the area, I would avoid Hiltons and find another brand.
