The Seattle times Article says....
"If it wins TWA's slots, Alaska plans to deploy its newest plane, the 172-seat 737-900."
Oh yeah, we know how reliable a source the Seattle Times is!
Actually, I would be very surprised if the 737-900 is deployed on this route. I think the DCA-SEA leg is going to be a challenge for the plane, especially if headwinds are strong. The 739 (737-900) has the same MTOW (max takeoff weight) as the 738, even though it is a much larger and potentially heavier plane, due to it's added capacity for fuel, passengers and bags. The 739's takeoff weight will be further limited by the short runway at DCA. If they fly with a full load of bags and pax, I'm guessing they won't be able to load enough fuel to cover the route.
Why wouldn't Alaska want to start service with a 120 seat 73G that is better-suited for the route than the 172 seat 739? If the flight is filling up, then Alaska should switch to the 737-900 (if that is even possible).
