After checking Malindo's website, it seems you may not be able to do a 1hr turnaround airside onto their flight from a separate ticket.

Why can't I perform a Web Check-in?
Answer :
There a several conditions for a PNR to be ready for check-in via web:
...
  • Passengers travelling to Perth (PER) and Bangkok ( DMK) will be subject to VISA implication, if you are experiencing a web check in issue, kindly check if your reservation has your updated passport details.
  • Passengers travelling to Perth has to proceed to our dedicated counter to verify their passport and visa details after performing a web check in. This is compulsory Reference for visa advisory - http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/
  • Web check-in is NOT available for the following sectors:
Taipei (TPE), Sanya (SYX), Wuhan (WUH), Singapore (SIN) and all sectors in India hence kindly proceed to the our counter to make passport verification.
Unless you're ready to take a punt that Malindo will have an agent at the transfer desk, I would suggest you build enough buffer to be able to get through immigration / customs, check-in, and get back in. You likely would need min 2.5hrs, but potentially 4hrs+ if it is busy at immigration. (I'd say you likely have to be at the Malindo counter at least before they close the flight's check-in period, ~1hr before the flight.)

Even if if they do have transfer desk capabilities, I do not know how they might treat a passenger (who OLCIs or not) who might get to the transfer desk with < 1hr before the OD flight (accounting for the MH flights taxiing, disembarkation, getting to the desk, etc., not to mention potential delays).

But OD is no longer an LCC ...although all practices may not have changed.
I still see Malindo as an LCC, albiet at the top-end of the spectrum (AirAsia being at the exact opposite side), though will agree that the line has blurred considerably in that area. Some 'full-service' airlines operate with more former LCC features than Malindo does...
