I visited YNP 2 years ago and stayed 4 nights at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel in the Park. It had just gone through a major renovation and was in good shape:

The hotel was built in 1890, and has a colonial style, so it does not look anything like the other Western NP Lodges built after it.

Obviously most from this forum would not consider it a luxury hotel, but I found it acceptable and found I began to enjoy my stay more with each passing day. Architecturally it is no Ahwahnee, but room quality is close. We had the highest grade of regular room and it was actually rather spacious and had a pleasant renovated bathroom. I recall sleeping well. The hotel also has suites and a Presidential Suite... so I imagine getting one of these would be comfortable. Availability will be the big issue for any room.

Location is good as you can get to all other parts of the park. This also allows you to get to some sites early before the rest of the crowds hit.

Old Faithful lodge is probably a nightmare to stay at, but certainly worth a visit. We had breakfast there and enjoyed it.
