It's an abhorrent practice that offers no value to consumers whatsoever. Are you defending Starwood because others like Hyatt do it? I think it is imperative that we as a group fight against this at every turn. Post negative reviews for EVERY hotel that attempts this here on FT, on TripAdvisor, on Yelp and everywhere we can til they stop.
I think the point is that it's such a common/widespread issue that discussing it in a single-property thread might be a bit out of place, and perhaps takes away from discussion/updates on things very specific to this particular property.
The long-standing DCC thread you linked to has lots of great discussion and recommendations. Creating a new discussion in every single hotel property thread would be similar to going to an autos forum and posting in every model-specific thread about auto financing fees.
