While I did not stay at this hotel during my Los Cabos trip this week, I did tour the property. First impression: The property is beautiful, but it is also stark, and IMHO, somewhat sterile. It couldn't have been more than 1/4 filled, perhaps even significantly less. The pools are beautiful and plentiful. The ocean is beautiful, but basically unswimmable, ever, due to extreme shore break and rip currents. And even when it's dead calm, as it was when I visited, the beach is black-flagged.

The entire surrounding area is in a state of not yet being fully developed. Knowing what I know of this area, I would guess it will be another 3-5 years before it's anywhere near being built out - Unless Trump causes development in Mexican resorts mainly catering to Americans to slow down dramatically. Going to this place, you are basically in an isolated resort, a good 3-5 miles from any significant surrounding business. I am surprised that they have kept the prices top shelf rather than offering deals to encourage occupancy and build a returning clientele.

I would contrast it with another similarly upscale resort, the Hyatt Ziva, which I also toured. That place is also gorgeous, but unlike the JW Marriott, the vibe was inviting. It was a bustling beehive of activity mobbed with people, with everyone busy having fun. And the Hyatt is also on an unswimmable beach with great pools, but it's also in the midst of an area with lots of other restaurants and businesses. And while it's an all-inclusive, there are plenty of exciting things to patronize nearby, unlike the JW Marriott.
