I ended up at the Marriott Stellaris for 2 days and then one day at the Hilton Caribe (more on that later). I enjoyed this property, but was disappointed in the beach area. It was very windy and the surf was too much to go into the water at all. The room was nice, I got an upgrade from a point's stay to a corner ocean view room. There are two towers, I was in the shorter one that is not as close to the ocean. The taller one, closer to the ocean, however may not be any different in terms of view, because of the way it is situated towards the ocean (kind of side-ways). I didn't see any rooms there to verify this, though. The pool was nice, not over the top. It seemed very crowded and closed in with beach chairs, but actually felt pretty comfortable. I was given 2 free drink coupons, which were only redeemable at the bar and only for a rum punch. I used 2 coupons for one drink, with a double shot, so it wasn't so sweet. I was also given casino credit, but didn't check out the casino at all. I heard you had to put $30 down to get $60 in chips (your own $30, plus the $30 "credit" they give you at check-in). Overall, if I had not stayed at the Hilton, I would have enjoyed this stay perfectly fine. I did not check out the Renaissance to answer my own question that I posed earlier.
I moved over to the Hilton Caribe at day 3, just to check out another property. I can say I was disappointed immediately that I had not started at the Hilton. It is much, much larger, and the beach and pool area were so much better. They have built a sea break, so there is ocean water to swim in that is not too rough and there is a sea wall that protects the pool area. There were so many more choices in where to relax at the pool and many more restaurants to choose from than the Marriott. The resort fee was more than at the Marriott, though. I was given a free breakfast coupon as Diamond that I could use at Starbucks or the restaurant for a continental breakfast. If/when I go back, I will stay at the Caribe.
