Though I agree in this case the excuse is presumably invalid, it is not a universal truth.

What the Judge in the sourced case said was that the airline did not take all reasonable measures to recover from the knock on delay.

And in the OP's case, with MAN being a hub, I would agree (unless Easy comes up with some more facts).

OTOH, at an outstation it could very well be valid. An airline can not be expected to stash spare equipment and crews around the world.
