Yes, thinking about it, the Hilton variant may provide BA with a good excuse to do something here: let's say the BA computer spots that someone has got their Silver or Gold renewal in the bank 8 months into the year, but also spots their travel is slowing down. They could then write to the member concerned and suggest that any TPs they earn before the end of their usual year can be rolled over into the next year, in an endeavour to get more business. They are already spotting those travellers who normally hit Silver/Gold, but appear to be running way short on future bookings, and making them an offer, usually something like "book a new CE trip to anywhere in Europe and we'll make you Silver/Gold anyway".
