I am currently in Phuket and was considering the new Marriott here, but decided to stick with the older Le Meridien strictly for the breakfast benefit. So inform yourself. There's a wealth of information on FT and lots of people with opinions willing to help. Use them.
I hope there are other reasons you chose the older Le Meridien over the newer Marriott hotel. Breakfast can be had for SO cheap in HKT, and usually better than any hotel breakfast. Unless you're looking for more western style choices.
For me breakfast wouldn't have me stay at one property over another but it can definitely be the breaker for some.
