Indeed - making a price increase stick for more than a few days is a separate challenge. It could be the prices float down so that BE is below current pricing. My guess is things settle somewhere in between as not all pax are savvy enough to pick up on this.
Given that they did both new-discount BE fares and "hidden increase" fares in the different rollout markets, I would guess they're collecting data on how customers react to each option.
