For the dates I checked I didn't find a one-way D fare PEK-SFO so I'm assuming this is part of a round trip ticket.

The D fares I found for r/t allow any routing so you can technically do PEK-east coast-SFO without a problem. The app may not offer you this SDC but the phone reps should be able to make it no problem.
