If you feel any better about the touristy-ness of it, keep in mind most of the historic center of Florence is geared to tourists. Very few Florentines can afford to actually live there, although many work there. And more importantly, 1.80 euro for a small means you didn't get tourist-gouged. There are some shops nearby charging 8 euro for a small cone. That is not a typo.
In Florence, always ask if the price isn't posted, because some places will really screw you.
