IIRC Hotel Stripes was taking reservations for Sunday Feb 12 and we stayed on Thursday Feb 16.

The hotel from the outside.

More of the facade later.

We arrived at the hotel at 10:45PM having taken Ekpress -> LRT (Dang Wangi) after our Uber driver played games and didn't move for 15 minutes. Cancellation followed by re-requested Uber were twice more accepted by the same driver. Giving up we grabbed the train out of KLIA. (NB - I've taken the bus a handful of times but as it was late and only an overnight connection so we just wanted to get there.)

Check in was smooth and my status, Plat, was noted. Amenity was a choice of snack and a choice of drink (beer included) or 500 pts. I chose the points relying upon my chat with Marriott prior to making a reservation wherein I was told the 'free minibar' mentioned in the fare rules included adult beverages. FDC also mentioned we'd been upgraded to an Executive Studio.

The first views of the room were welcoming.

Our room had a connecting door which i'm not fond of but figured it was unlikely anyone would be in the adjoining room. Next to the door was a small mirrored closet (no pic) which contained the safe and refrigerator.

The drinks and the fruit were the only consumables in the room save coffee. So the minibar not only didn't include alcohol, there was neither alcohol nor snacks in the room.

I called down and the spoke with staff about this discrepancy and the manager offered to send up two beers, thing was, both of us desired a cocktail. She then offered to look into it. In the meantime we left the hotel to grab some nasi lemak and sup ayam around the corner.

Each package of nasi lemak was 1.5 MYR and the bowl of soup 6 MYR. We felt much better and when as soon as we walked in the door the phone rang and the manager offered to send us a vodka drink. ^ Shortly thereafter the bell rang and in came a tray of two glasses pre-poured with vodka (Grey Goose he claimed) and two cans, soda and tonic. We asked for the tonic and he departed with the soda. As I was closing the door one staff said, 'I'm sorry, I don't have the bill. Would you like me to bring it back?' Astonished I demured noting I'd deal with it in the morning. We weren't charged for it.

Internet offers a regular service (1MB download/upload) and a 50 MYR per day fast version. I'm still getting my feet under me as a MR Plat (SPG match) and stupidly chose the free version prior to inquiring if we were eligible for the faster version.

A call to the front desk, where I was told that yes, indeed, the faster internet would be free for us didn't help much as there wasn't a way to bring up the sign in page anew. I had a similar hassle at DT KL a week earlier when backing out of the Exec Lounge code required manually removing the MAC address from the internet registry. Unfortunately there was no IT on property at this time so we let it ride. Someone was not happy to be denied their youtube usage, it wasn't me.

Let me delve into breakfast before getting to room usage issues.

Breakfast is taken on the 2nd floor the room called The Snug. Never have I seen the word used as such, but I came close to failing every English class I ever took, so I'll let it slide.

Where the chef is standing on the left side, mid pic, is a alcove where you'd find the regular breakfast offerings.

As we were seated I attempted to order our coffee, typically that's the first thing discussed, but in this case we were subsequently shown where we could make our own. Often I prefer to make my own cappuccino (commonly the machines add too much milk) but this is the first time I've been told it's the only way to get coffee. Much laughter (not) ensued later when some Asian guests botched the machine's usage and got hot water all over the floor.

Next to the coffee set up was the cereal section (in IKEA bags no less).

The Danish in this last photo, albeit on the extreme right edge, is the sole bread offering that isn't sliced bread.

Into the warm foods area.

The rice porride/egg station and nasi lemak packages.

Fried noodles, fried rice and hash browned hockey pucks

Chicken sausage and beef facon.

Finally, the sliced bread (we have both kinds - white and wheat) and waffle station.

There was also a large refrig with 4 doors. Within contained sandwiches (?), fruit in a cup, bottled juices, yogurt, smoked salmon etc.

The ketchup was a sweetened mess so I quickly ditched the hash brown hockey pucks. The facon was a salty mess as well. The orange, kiwi and pineapple juices tasted sweetened but the grapefruit had a very nice tartness to it. My breakfast turned to this.
