LX advertising fares without taxes/fees - is that legal in Switzerland?
I have been buying tickets on the Swiss mobile application for years, and the final price on the payment screes was always the sum of the fares advertised for the flights selected.
Now I saw for the first time that the fares advertised are before taxes and fees, I tried with several destinations, such as Zürich to New York or Zürich to London. And every time the amount shown on the payment screen was higher than the sum of the amounts advertised for the outbound and return flights.
Here is an example of a booking made on the mobile app (see also pictures):
1. Select outbound on LX 16 on Feb 22, "Eco flex" at CHF 1'321
2. On flight selection screen for return, the little black box on top says that fare so far is CHF 1'321
3. Select return on LX 17 on Feb 26, *Economy" at CHF 701. Little black box on top says that not total amount is CHF 2'022 - all is correct so far.
4. When you then advance to the next screen, the total in the little black box is suddenly CHF 2'508!
Basically all kinds of fees and taxes were added - but nowhere does it say that fees and taxes of CHF 486 have been added. And nowhere on the previous screens was it made clear that the fares were before fees and taxes.
I always lived under the impression that ticket prices had to be advertised including taxes and fees, and that advertising the "naked" fares would be illegal in Switzerland.
Anyone knows more?
