No -- access is allowed for Central America flights.

AAdvantage Platinum is equivalent to oneworld Sapphire

AAdvantage Platinum members will be entitled to the following benefits across the oneworld network:

Priority check-in at Business Class check-in desks (where available), regardless of the class of service flown

Preferred seating

Priority standby and waitlisting

Preferred boarding and entrance to all of the oneworld airlines' Business Class and airport lounges when traveling internationally*, regardless of the class of service flown on that day

* Lounge access is not available when traveling solely on North American itineraries. North American itineraries are defined as travel within or between the U.S., Canada, Mexico (with the exception of Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Each oneworld member airline reserves the right to change its frequent flyer program rules, regulations, travel awards and special offers and to end their frequent flyer program in accordance with its relevant frequent flyer program rules. AAdvantage miles may only be earned on purchased, published fares.

You got lucky. Costa Rica is not considered international enough for AA Plats and EXPs to gain entrance to clubs. Especially the BA club in MIA. That's like hitting lotto twice
