Agreed. It's UA's ticket number (they are the issuer). If you go to LH, they will refer you to UA to discuss.
I was able to change a return once w/ a doctor's (hospital letterhead) note - it was for the actual passenger. Even this was a fluke luck (which was very appreciated) happening.
