Compensation for emergency landings?
AA 2107 Miami-Caracas on 2 May 2004, a friend (Platinum) onboard sent me the following report today:
If you read about a plane full of smoke that had an emergency landing in the Bahamas that was me!!! We left, half an hour later strong smell of something burning, I thought they were burning our breafast. Crew running around, captain says we are going back to MIA. 5 minutes later announces, that we are landing NOW! Where I don't know, there is only water, fasten your seats belts tightly, are you sure you can open the exit door, please help the lady behind you - with 3 small kids - she will need help, plane shakes and is going down so fast that I see no way it is going to land...but land it does and we all leave in a hurry, smoke all over, the cockpit is full of smoke, leave your carry ons and out! I did manage to take my computer! At 3 pm another plane arrived from MIA to take us to Caracas...I am still shaking when I think of it.
Now, we all know that a good ending is a good ending and all, and yes, I was impressed with the FA advice to help the lady behind her with the three small kids. And apparently everybody did get off without injury. But, knowing what I usually get, unsolicited, for delays, etc. from AA, what has been anyone's experience at AA's compensatory response to such an incident?
