Cape Town might be my favorite city in the world to visit. I'd consider Westin if going alone next time but w family the location doesn't make sense. Better options in safe areas that lets one walk around.
Frankly, I think this is sound advice for most urban locations in South Africa. I would not walk around late at night since it is mostly compound living after dark. The Burger King there is pretty much in a dead space area without a lot of urban life.

Others may have a different feeling but I wouldn't attribute this as a negative aspect of the hotel. The only other option is staying directly in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront hotels (Table Bay or One and Only) where there is private security everywhere and an overall artificial sense of the country.
