I have no chance of getting gold back until a few months into my new year as I have been grounded for medical reasons for 5 months and still only allowed short haul for a while! (It would need a lot of TLL TP runs though I have one booked)
I thought I would probably be alright for the solo trip the day after my year end but I also have another Club Europe with hubby a few weeks after that. It seems to be pretty much pot luck but I reckon if I avoid seats that are reserved for golds I should be fine. I would still have seat reservations with silver. Not sure about him though! I just need to work out whether row 2 counts as gold only as it is technically the front row and also the best seats on the LGW A320 config.
Ok, makes sense, I'm not silver so I can't do a dummy booking to see what's available in Silver, but someone on here may be able to hopefully. If your on the same booking, and your silver, you can still reserve the seats for both of you as far as I remember at the point that silver reservations open up, if it is only a few weeks after your gold expires, you should not have any periods that you can't reserve on the booking.
As an alternative, if you've been gold for a while, you could always speak to BA and see if they would make an exception given the circumstances, particularly if you have medical evidence you can't fly LH, just a suggestion.
