That was my thought as well. Can't tell you the amount of times I've almost hit a discarded refridgerator or mattress while driving around Detriot. Roads in SW MI are terrible as well.

I don't buy the frequent thaw/freeze story as when one enters from Canada or another state into MI the roads immediately become horrible.

The roads in western UP of MI are pretty good though compared to the rest of the state.
