Last week I flew American six 6 times and they asked to turn of wireless on everyflight. But other airlines may do the same. In flight I checked with a device capable of finding WLAN and found at least one source (not being me). I wonder if it's all that dangerous. The cell phone in flight (yes they are talking about that as well) could be a different story: The claim is that the phone broadcast less agressive when they are close to the base station (one would be on board). Nice, but what happens if the basestation is down? Right! Strong broadcasts.
Interesting times. For people that are interested in these types of technology, safety and security I'd recommend you'd subscribe to my free monthly newsletter on these topics (in Dutch and English). Last month I had info on UMTS at airports, next month will feature the inflight Internet. Drop me a line if that is useful for you (
