The system actually seems to currently be set up to expect you to use your miles to get a ticket for someone else. When I buy paid tickets while logged into my account the passenger info fields will automatically populate with my name, etc. However yesterday when I got some award tickets those fields did not automatically get filled in -- I had to select myself from the dropdown. I don't remember whether it's always been that way.
