I realize a missed connection is unlikely, but if we are delayed outbound and miss the connection at AMS, where do we go, AF, KLM or a transfer desk? Ditto the reverse, except substitute Delta for AF? If everything falls apart is it KLM that is ultimately responsible for getting us there?
Here is something interesting that you may want to try. I booked a flight from SFO-CDG-SFO and the return flight was CDG-AMS-SFO with a short 1 hour connection in AMS so either I miss the connection or my bag does. So I called to Delta before my 24 hours was up to change the ticket without a fee and the nonstop CDG-SFO was $20 cheaper so I got a non-refundable voucher to use for a future flight.

I did this because firstly the nonstop flight left 5 minutes before the one via AMS, secondly I arrive into SFO at 12:30 PM vs 2:30 PM so for $20 less it was a no brainer and also I'm on the A380 in Y so this is better than on KLM albeit a 787 I still love the Airbus 380.

Also AF serves Champagne in Y so that will go down with some good chocolates purchased post-security at SFO and CDG.
