I think it's rather unethical to lie about being a member when you aren't. So I would never do that.

But with that said, I sometimes ask if there are any discounts, and if they mention AAA, I say "I'm not a member, but can I still get that rate?" More than half the time the answer is yes. If the room is vacant and unlikely to be filled, there is little reason for them to care.
