Afterwards we made our way back to our terminal to wait by our gate for boarding.
For some odd reason, even though we were all in the same row, we had different boarding numbers. Youngest daughter was group 3, oldest DD was group 4 and my husband and I were group 5, but thankfully we were allowed to board altogether with group 3, which probably help us getting both our carryon luggage in overhead bins in our row.
The kids and DH were in one row, I was in the aisle seat across from them. On the way there the kids played with their devices and DH tried to sleep.
I chatted a bit with the very friendly older couple next to me- or gripped the armrest and tried to calm down. It was a very bumpy flight and at some points, I felt like I was on a roller coaster and couldn’t get off- and thought I was going to be sick.
When we landed in Cancun, we made our way through the first round of customs where hand in our papers and show our passports. Then we pick up our bags and go through what seems to be a secondary inspection. Where someone in your party presses a button and hopes for GREEN- which means all clear. If you get RED, it means you have to bring all your stuff to an agent and they comb through your bags. Thankfully, we got GREEN.
Once we exited, there is a large hall with various kiosks of large hotels, including the Barcelo, I knew from research NOT to talk to any of these representatives, as in actually they are just time share shills. I made a beeline straight out of the airport, ignoring the “Hey Lady” calls for attention from them.
The heat and the humidity seemed to overwhelm me at first, as did the crowds while tried to get myself organized and call the hotel to have their shuttle. The outside of the terminal almost looks like a bus depo with many passenger vans and busses to pick up charter tours. I got through and was told to wait in a designated area- which would have been fine except there was already a van parked there and several crowds.
I noticed there were a few guys walking around in light blue collared shirts with ID badges , I sensed they were actual airport transit authority and not hustlers, so I asked about the shuttle and was told that I was in the right spot and they the Marriot shuttle usually comes every 25 minutes and to look for a yellow van with Marriot written in green.
