Oneworld has a circle pacific fare, but could be more $$ (AA QF CX JL) is not UA - Star Alliance
I only need one-way SFO-HKG, and the RTs will cost at least the same as the OWs.
Unfortunately, these kind of travel optimizations are way above the skillset of any "real" travel agents that I know, would love to get an intro to one that is used to find very clever, unusual solutions for driving down the price.
