Any changes would be after departure and for the segments leaving Australia onwards - there's potentially a need to push dates forwards or back. If booked into O fare class, would they re-price into historic O fares, or potentially have to book into a different fare class at an increased cost?
It's this sort of fare conditions/changes/repricing where I get totally confused!
The challenge you may find is that there are no China-based OW carriers, which makes two stops in China difficult or expensive. You might be better served with a separate Beijing to Shanghai ticket round-trip.
