As someone who is indifferent to BA looking at this situation I cant help but feel Unite maybe doing MF an injustice here! Without getting involve in the who is right who is wrong debate strikes can only work when certain factors are true and I don't see any here that favour MF enough.

The general public don't care about his strike - Its money its about, there is no cause that makes them take notice (trains was safety / tube was ticket offices/safety)

The effect on the public and BA is minimal - MF strike BA still run nearly all flights! The issue here is the people affected are few and I have spoken to some who have flown during the strike and commend BA for still getting them to their destination during a strike! It is actually about the only positive thing I have heard people say about BA in a long time!

The effect on BA finances, yes they have to cancel flights and there will be a cost, but they have a small offset on wages saved and very high load factors!

So why would BA give in, where is the incentive for them to do so when you bear in mind MF are only a low percentage of the overall employee's they have. If they give in the other crews (possibly ground crew / pilots) will all strike for better pay going forward sensing weakness!

Yes in the busier months it will be harder for BA to get everyone to their destination and the longer it goes on equally harder to do, but MF simply don't seem to have the ability to bring BA to a halt and have no way of getting an emotional connection with the public so it seems this is one fight Unite really should have avoided for the benefit of their members.
