I am a HHonors Gold member - to my knowledge, only Diamond membership may get you that privilege.

However, last year, when I was trying to book a convention hotel at any 4 or 5 star hotel in Copenhagen, less than one month in advance of the convention - everything was sold out. I then communicated with a FT participant who liven in Copenhagen, and who had top tier membership in one of the hotel chains. He indicated that his status would get him the room in any of the hotels; he called the hotel chain reservations call center, and also the hotel directly; apparently, in the fine print of his membership benefits was that this privilege is NOT valid during periods of extremely high booking, such as conventions!
