I just checked in to LAX-SUN and was charged $75 for a ski bag. Granted, it's about 200cm, but pretty light and certainly not overweight. The agent said golf or snowboard bags would not have been a charge, but skis do.
Is this correct?
Maybe this is an obvious question, but this is my first flight since status matching from AA EXP where checking this same bag hasn't been an issue and the online policy wasn't clear with the way their headings are organized.
Thanks!
Not correct. (Bolding mine)

Skis/snowboards
1 piece of ski/snowboard equipment is defined as 1 pair of skis with poles or 1 snowboard, plus 1 boot/helmet bag. If boots/helmet are checked in a bag that also contains clothing or additional items, standard checked baggage fees will apply to the bag.
Ski/snowboard equipment may exceed 62" (linear), without incurring an oversize fee.
