I couldn't agree more (though that is all the more reason for Daniel to share travelogs to places that I wouldn't ever visit, or want to visit!) :-)
The photo of the Parliament building was seriously astounding. Never realized that such a huge building exists even!
Reference to Causeascu (sp?) reminded me of the time, nearly three decades ago, of me as a student listening to the BBC World News and related shows (I even - audio - recorded those segments) about the uprisings in Eastern Europe - Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Romania, etc! Travelling in that area, to me at least, would be like reliving history that I have lived through (albeit vicariously).
A few questions:
- what were your travel costs in Romania like? Yes, you did refer to some of the costs, but I am curious about subway/metro costs within Bucharest (do they have passes, are there a lot of railway lines within the city?) And also the long distance trains - was that a single ticket with a break journey in between or did you get separate tickets? At the intermediate station, I am puzzled that you had to ask the locals about your onward train being on time or late. Was there no station staff, or were they also only conversant in Romanian?
- I noticed that in a couple of places you have referred to Euros, then $ and also the local currency. Are all these valid currencies in Romania or did you just refer to Euros and $ (I'm assuming USD) for ease of translation? In other words, whenever you paid cash, did you use any currency besides the local currency?
- one city I recall from listening to BBC is Timisoara. I've forgotten the relevance (will need to Google to remind myself) ... but did you consider visiting there? I mean, was there a specific reason you chose the cities you did?
