I do SYD-LAX regularly and have the opposite experience. Landing in the US I have to try hard to stay up past 6pm, but coming back to SYD I have no problems with jet lag at all. It's a shame the canned that flight with the mid arvo arrival in to LAX. Assuming you weren't trying to get much further than the west coast, it was much easier on the body clock, imo.

To the OP I would suggest trying to stay awake as long as possible ex-DFW to get your body clock clicking over to Sydney time.
They certainly drag out the service. You only have to fly similar routes on other airlines and you'll see just how slow they are. And with other airlines now managing to do plating in the galley instead of choice from the trolley, it becomes all the more obvious - for exactly the same delivery. Maybe its a Neil Perry thing?

And as for eastbound or westbound, the latter is consistently far easier on me for recovery and survival on the day of arrival. I'll only do a RTW xONEx in a westbound direction.
