In the 70's they had 16mm Movies played on a Big Movie cassette players, sound came through via tubes to The Seat and Large Headsets

Each Cabin had its own equipment so there would be 4 or 5 separate units on a 747.

I think I flew that exact 747 to Beijing on United.....in 2012.....with the same "entertainment" configuration.
