Would it make sense for IAG to buy Norwegian Air Shuttle?

Goodbody, a broker/financial advisor who have previously acted for International Consolidated Airlines Group, have suggested in a public note this morning that IAG should buy Norwegian Air Shuttle.

It isn't clear if Goodbody are trying to drum up business (they only recently opened a London office) or if they are preparing the ground for something IAG already wants to do.

Still it is an interesting proposition. Goodbody point out that IAG can afford it, it would strengthen them in Scandinavia where they are quite weak, and it would enable them to capture a growing low-cost longhaul segment immediately.

On the other hand, it seems that IAG would not be bothering to set up their own low cost longhaul division in Barcelona if they were eyeing up DY.

Stock prices of both IAG and DY are unaffected by the suggestion this morning, suggesting that no one is taking the idea too seriously.
