I checked in for a HKG-BKK-CNX award ticket today, and at the counter the Thai agent informed me that United has neglected to update their software to collect the HKG security tax of 50 HKD, and that I'd have to pay it on the spot in order to check in.

Has anybody else experienced this snafu? I looked at my eticket receipt and there was a C$27.50 HKG construction fee and a C$20.70 HKG departure tax, but no security fee. I did get a receipt for the security tax, which they accepted USD 8 for in cash. They would have added a surcharge if I'd paid by credit card. Good thing I didn't try and check in at the Kowloon station of the Airport Express train - it was tricky enough to do this at the Thai ticket office in HKG.
