The levels are a bit different between programs. Hilton Honors Silver only needs 4 stays, less than some other programs.

Status match through the promotion is only for 90 days and ends if the traveler doesn't stay at Hilton properties a lot. Hilton is simply trying to gain more guests. True, Rodeways are not as fancy as regular Hiltons but Comfort Inns are often better than Hamptons by Hilton.

The bottom line is that status matches usually create business. I only was status matched once, by Continental Airlines more than 10 years ago. For them, they got a lot of business even though their status match was for an entire year with no need to travel a lot the first 90 days as Hilton requires to keep the status for the remainder of the year.
