So the handling company would need to send someone to the baggage claim area, retrieve your bag and retag it? I am surprised that happened anywhere. It is a fair bit of trouble for them to go to, for solving a separate ticket issue for you.
This is standard service at SIN, and occasionally done at HKG.
At SIN, there are staff on the ground all day pulling un-claimed bags from the conveyor belts and scan them into the system. Bags re-tagged (just hand-written tags) magically appear at my final destination.
