You can always remove MPC number after op-up happened. That's why you do it in the lounge next to boarding gate once "boarding soon" appears. Op-ups would have already been finalized and the pax status has already printed at the manifest so you receive appropriate treatment even though you didn't got op-up.
Guess I never thought of keeping the HKG-MAN sector. In that case I think it is wiser to remove MPC for the outbound flight and keep MPC for CDG-HKG.
MAN is flown with A359. Hence in J there would be no chance of op-up anyways.
